Creative isn’t a word that’s often used to describe vegetarian food, but Vanilla Black is just that. Located in the heart of legal London, this Michelin recommended restaurant is one of the few we have come across that offers genuinely innovative food for vegetarians. And for the most part, it’s working.
We started with both the whipped jacket potato and the brie ice cream. The former turned out to be bowl of piped potato flavoured with tomato syrup and cheese, which was comforting but rather monotonous after a while. However, the brie ice cream was a real treat, perfectly complemented by juicy poached blackberries. Our main courses – the salted and ash baked celeriac and the roast salsify with jerusalem artichokes – were similarly good, and we ended the meal by feasting on the delicious milk chocolate pate and avocado ice cream.
At £29.75 for two courses or £39.50 for three, Vanilla Black is somewhere for a special occasion rather then every day. But if you’re looking to impress a veggie date, there’s nowhere better.
Opening times: Monday – Saturday lunch 12:00 – 2:30pm and dinner 6:00 – 10:00pm
